Lollapalooza officially kicks off today, and that makes me feel old. I remember the good old days, when Lollapalooza was only three days long. Back in my day, I saw acts like Kanye West (“Stronger” was the big hit at the time), Radiohead (uh, yeah, In Rainbows had just come out), Arcade Fire, The Killers, and Lady Gaga… on a side stage, no less. I had to sprint back to the Metra station every night to catch the train, because I was one of those teenagers, except for my senior year when some friends and I got a hotel and felt fancy AF.
I remember meticulously planning my hair and outfits for each day of the festival. I also remember being a huge fan of Bed Head by TIGI hair products back then. In fact, After Party was my first big prestige hair splurge, at Ulta. And, well, some things never change … Bed Head is still a staple when I’m looking to create sexy, rockstar hair inspired by street styles.
And festival hair is nothing if not sexy and rock ‘n’ roll. Think lots of braids, buns, and styles that will hold up to sweat, dancing and dry shampoo the next day (to do it all over again, of course!)
Here are three of my favorite styles from Pinterest — and keep reading to get the scoop on an exclusive Lollapalooza event with Bed Head where you can get alllll your festival-styling needs taken care of!
Space buns are showing no sign of slowing down as one of the biggest festival hair trends, and they’re pretty easy to re-create with this tutorial from Mane Addicts. Use Oh Bee Hive! dry shampoo to texturize, and Masterpiece Massive Shine Hairspray to keep in place.
What’s a festival hair roundup without a good braid? And whatever braid you try will be perfectly complemented with a spritz of Headrush Superfine Mist for all day shine.
If you’re doing a full four days of Lollapalooza, you’re going to want to get all the gunk out. That’s where Totally Beachin’ Cleansing Jelly Shampoo and Mellow After-Sun Conditioner come in. Once clean, spritz hair with Queen Beach Salt Infused Texture Spray, twist half of it into a topknot, and go focus on what’s really important this weekend: dancing.
Also, I’m pretty sure “Queen Beach” is a reference to the David Bowie song “Queen Bitch,” so a million points for Bed Head for the best product names ever.
Of course, if you’re in town for Lollapalooza, you could also swing by the Hard Rock Hotel on Friday or Saturday for the Bed Head Hotel event. There will be a Bed Head Style Bar, bites and sips, live music and more…so even if you’re not attending the fest, you can still get your glam on.
Shop my Bed Head product picks below (available at Ulta Beauty and Ulta.com), and let me know what your favorite festival style is in the comments! I won’t actually be going to Lolla this year, but you better believe that I am considering rocking glitter space buns to the Lady Gaga concert at Wrigley Field this month.
