Maybe it’s the Instagram I posted yesterday. Maybe it’s the fact that we’re in the thick of wedding season. Or maybe it’s just succumbing to seasonal trends and the Pinterest ads I’m frequently served. Whatever it is, I’ve been feeling major floral dress vibes lately.
Nothing says summer chic like an effortless one piece with loads of style…which is exactly what the best floral dresses do. Brands like Reformation and Show Me Your Mumu do it best, but there are PLENTY of affordable options to be found at staples like Forever 21, H&M and Nordstrom Rack. Also: Abercrombie & Fitch is a total sleeper hit here. I know, right?! Who knew the too-cool-for-school teen brand of the aughts was turning out surprisingly stylish clothes these days? (My friend Lauren, actually, that’s who.)
Anyway, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite floral dress #lewks from my favorite bloggers and brands below, as well as under-$100 options for those of us with Reformation taste on a Forever 21 budget. (Although: the Reformation sale just started yesterday so if you’re going to splurge on one of their dresses, now is the time to do it!)
The key to a good floral dress is all in the pattern. The wrong colors or scale can make it look cheap or cheesy…the exception being tiny ditsy flowers, which can be quite chic. Look for dresses that don’t incorporate too many colors, with patterns that are large enough to be cool without looking ridiculous.
Here are some of my favorite floral dresses under 100:
